KRAKKATOWIAK is the centerpiece of a sprawling home recording session in early 2007 in the middle of Dallas-area suburbia. Hill’s krakkling ampbuzz and intermittently piercing screetch guitar opens into a vertigo-inducing world populated by wildfire free sax explosions, reverberating junkpile percussion, and jarring outbursts of smoking oscillator emissions, transposed with restful ambient daydreams -- tonal fortune cookies on a lighly bouncy early electronic nest, populated by the friendly electromagnetic denizens of the shortwave. Only to erupt again into 31st-century tribal breakdowns.

Over the course of this ambitious 17-minute piece, the Zanzibar Snails have managed to fuse the freeform incidentalism of AMM with the focused-yet-reckless energy of This Heat, and the anything-goes playfulness of Sunburned Hand of the Man. All neatly wrapped in a micro-package of antique paper stock smeared with the distinctively bold style of locally renowned poster artist and designer Hill, and a dense antediluvian tissue insert courtesy of Hill’s zine collaborator David Price.
